The interview from Manuel Muradas from the radioprogram for electronic music Ultima Fronteira.
Manuel: Tell me about at the begining.
Rey: I began making experiments in 1984 with electronic circuits. I made
them myself buing electronic components like transistors, diodes etc. I
puted together envelope generators, oscilators, filters and pre-amps.
With those circuits i created my electronic instruments and keyboards.
But thos instruments had many limitations. They were okay for sound
effects but not good for arranging and composing music.
In 1986 i got my very first synthesizer. It was the Yamaha CS 30 L, an
monophonic instrument but with a lot of oscillators envelopes and other
important electronic circuits. It was great for creating music and good
effects. Later I got a polyphonicsynths, the Roland Jupiter 4 because I
needed an instrument for playing cords. Those compositions for many
years ago was made with an old tape recorder and a four track tape
recorder. I still have the recordings but they are in a very bad sound
quality.
Manuel: About your style?
Rey: My musical style have always been inspirated by artist like Tangerine
Dream, Brian Eno, Mike Odlfield, Jean Michel Jarre y Giorgio Moroder
who are musicians who created the source of the music of today like the
house music, chill out, ambient and techno trance.
I used to make deep house and popmusic before, but now i have begun to
make a mix between chill out, ambient and the more clasic electronic
music.
Manuel: Tell the story about "Hidden Vibrations".
Rey: I used to make new interpretations of the music of Tangerine Dream,
Mike Oldfield, Yanni, Giorgio Moroder, Space y Milkways para
Hypnotic Records for tribute cd´s. Hypnotic Records who
needed some one who had aknowledge about teh clasic electronic music
for theire proyects. I became one of the chsoen for that kind of jobs
because they already knew me and they knewed that i was good for
that kind of music.
But I had in main releasing my own compositions on an album but
Hypnotic Records only wanted me to do new versions of the music of the
known artists in the field of the clasic electronic music. Then in 1999
i released my first album, "Hidden Vibrations" on the label Tele Sound
Recording.
Manuel: What about "Innovative Desert"?
Rey: After my album "Hidden Vibrations" i decided to begin making
house music and pop. Bim Bam Recordings y Hypnotic Records signed
some of my pop and house track, but they never got released anyway. I
played "live with my house tracks. Then i realized that i was getting
tired of making that style. Well, i noticed after a while that the new
house music did not bring some new to the style, it was only the same
repetitions and rythm without any changes at all.
It had to pass eight years before i released "Innovative Desert". I
desided to leave behind me the house and pop music for a long time and
began to get the ideas for some ambient and chill out mixed with the
more clasical styles of the electronic music. The album, "Innovative
Desert" has the same style like "Hidden Vibration", but more symphonic,
melodic and with more rythmns.
Manuel: Tell me about your new proyects.
Rey: I´m now working of new material for my next album, "Deep
Transfer". It will be in the same style like "Innovative Desert"
y "Hidden Vibrations".
